What is a regular cab vs double cab trucks?
Doesn’t it seem like it doesn’t matter where you look, trucks are everywhere? The days where pickups were made only for work are in the past. Modern pickups can be upgraded to be as opulent as the most iconic brands in luxury. So, no matter if you want the lap of luxury or need a workhorse, there is a pickup made for you. Once you decide if you must have 4-Wheel Drive (or if RWD will suffice), the next big decision is to decide what cab size works best for you and your needs.
As you might guess, a regular cab truck has one row of seats with limited legroom and storage space. A regular cab was once the single way to purchase pickups. In most regular cabs, the seatbacks almost touch the back part of the cab. This is the “work” version of a truck and can usually be ordered with manual windows and locks. A regular cab is made to work, not for hauling friends and family around.
As one could probably guess, an Extended Cab truck (can also be called a Double Cab pickup truck) is just a Regular Cab with extra space behind the front seating. When they were first introduced, extended cab pickup trucks were available as 2-door models and only had rear jump seats available. Now sometimes known as a Double Cab pickup truck, these trucks now come with a second row of small doors for easy access to the cargo area. Despite having 2 rows of seats, an Extended Cab pickup truck wouldn’t be the best choice for road trips, even though it can carry more passengers.
While not as obvious as the earlier models, a Crew Cab truck has 4 full-size doors and the room to hold, well, your whole ‘crew.’ Crew Cab trucks are built to transport more stuff and people. In some circles, these trucks have replaced the standard sedan as the family vehicle. A Crew Cab pickup truck’s bigger size and powerful engines are unavailable in the 4-door sedan world while still providing the luxuries and rear-seat legroom that families desire.
